As Europe hosts some of the biggest football clubs in the world, we decided to take a look at the most thriving football clubs with regards to the number of trophies won both domestically, in Europe, and in other club championships.
Real Madrid
Real Madrid is one of the biggest clubs in the world and, with 72 trophies, they are also known as the most successful European club in history. Their nine Champions League is a legendary record. Yes, it is true that five of them were won in the first five editions, and there is no doubting the brilliance of such success.
In the past two decades, Barcelona has gained power over Real Madrid and is now only two trophies away from their eternal rivals. Real Madrid is home to many all-time greatest some point in their careers.
Barcelona
Barcelona is one of the biggest and the second-winningest club in European history. A significant part of their success is due to the three Champions League trophies, and this has come after Johan Cruyff joined the team. In 2009, Barcelona became the first club ever to win the sextuple. Many all-time greats played at Barcelona at one point in their careers. Despite the 70 trophies, 20 leagues and three Champions League Barcelona is not very happy with that, and their ultimate dream with to keep on improving. This is true in both these competitions and in the overall trophy count, in which they still fall behind their eternal rivals.
Ajax
Ajax is clearly the most successful club in Holland and also one of the most significant and successful clubs in history. They might not be a top team right now, but throughout history, they had some of the best players ever to play on the football field, especially Johan Cruyff. They’re also notable for possessing one of the best football academies in the world.
FC Porto
Another case where a man changed everything is the team FC Porto. Pinto da Costa took over, Porto were only the third club in Portugal, but they now hold the first position in Portugal and one of the most successful clubs in Europe. Pinto da Costa is the most successful president in the history of football, as Porto has won 51 of their 65 trophies during his 30-year tenure. In the past 25 years, Porto has won the Champions League twice and has become a regular presence in the latter stages of the main European competition.
