David Warner IPL runs – Year by Year & Team-Wise

The fastest player to earn more than 5000 IPL runs, the three-time Orange Cap champion, and the top international batter in the tournament’s history, David Warner, is a fantastic IPL player.

Warner from Australia is an elite player who has managed to secure a place in the biggest T20 competition globally after winning the IPL trophy in 2016 while serving as captain.

Born in Paddington, New South Wales, David Warner made his Twenty20 breakthrough for Australia at the legendary Melbourne Cricket Ground against South Africa. The 22-year-old southpaw made history by becoming the youngest cricketer from Australia in more than a decade to play for the national squad without having played first-class cricket.

Warner proved his skill by scoring 89 runs off just 43 balls in his Australia maiden matches, showcasing his experience and versatility as a player across all game formats.

David Warner IPL Journey

IPL India league cherishes its international players as a valuable asset. David Warner is notable for being the most productive global batter in IPL. Warner won his first IPL contract with Delhi in 2009 due to his blistering batting.

The New South Welshman smashed runs for the IPL for five seasons and made history in 2011 by being the first T20 cricketer to record centuries.

The Year 2009 Until 2013

David Warner has been a crucial batsman for the team he has served. From 2009 until 2013, he played for the Delhi Daredevils; since 2014, he batted for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

In David Warner’s debut season with the Daredevils, the player earned 23 goals on average while striking out in the low 120s. However, the move proved a game-changer once the southpaw signed a deal with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) franchise.

The Year 2014

David Warner became a part of SRH in 2014. When Sunrisers acquired Warner in 2014, nobody expected the Australian left-hander to lead the team to its maiden title.

The Year 2015

David Warner was appointed SRH’s skipper in 2015. Although he could not lead his team to the playoffs, he earned himself the orange cap in the same year for scoring the maximum runs.

The Year 2016

In IPL 2016, David warner’s team led to their first title, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final. The batsman contributed significantly in the grand finals and finished the tournament as the second-highest run-scorer. Even though his team didn’t advance to the final in 2017, he earned himself his second Orange cap.

The Year 2018

Warner had his share of problems during this IPL season. Steve Smith, Warner, and opener Cameron Bancroft were caught tampering with the ball with sandpaper during the incident. All players received harsh sanctions after the incident.

The board barred him from participating in the 2018 IPL due to ball-tampering charges in the Newlands Test.

The Year 2019

Although Warner was given the go-ahead to return for the 2019 season, he didn’t serve as captain. But he played a vital role as a batsman in the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) top order. He had a tremendous 2019 innings and won the Orange Cap, demonstrating his skill as an IPL player.

Jonny Bairstow and David Warner of Sunrisers opened the scoring for their team against Royal Challengers Bangalore with 185 runs in Hyderabad. Also, Warner led Sunrisers into the IPL 2020 playoffs with a score of 85 as his team defeated Mumbai Indians by ten wickets.

When questioned about their favorite aspect of batting together, they both agreed that running between the wickets was a key element of their effective combination. Warner stated that he enjoyed running between the wickets, and their enthusiasm when going between the wickets is incredible.

The Year 2021

Warner has been a foundation of the SRH team over the years. He holds the record for the most runs scored in matches for SRH. However, the Australian player’s 2021 season falls short of expectations. This was the player’s lowest season ever in terms of runs scored per innings.

Warner was relieved of the SRH captaincy during the first round of the 2021 IPL for his subpar play. But, unfortunately, things got worst at the end, and he was dropped from the match SRH against RR.

When David left SRH, rumors of the Australian hitter joining CSK were rampant. In December, the IPL mega bidding for the 2022 season took place, and two more clubs were added to the original eight.

David Warner, the former skipper of the SRH, sought support from a Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fan in deciding which side to support in the Indian Premier League (IPL) between CSK and KKR.

So, he shared a drawing that a little fan had sent him of the player and a young girl sporting Chennai Super Kings shirts. Warner considered the chance to enter CSK, one of the most popular clubs in IPL, but he chose DC.

The Year 2022

David Warner found his way and returned home to the IPL franchise Delhi Capitals (DC), where he initially made his debut in 2022. Prithvi Shaw was the Australian’s ideal top-order partner to go along with David Warner’s combative striking approach.

David Warner, a top run scorer of T20 matches, is a tremendous asset to Delhi Capitals, DC, in pursuing the elusive IPL trophy in the upcoming match.

David Warner IPL 2023: Slated to Head the Delhi Capitals

The IPL has been around for a while but still generates excitement yearly. As the tournament approaches, people look forward to finding out who will be crowned champions this time.

As Rishabh Pant will be out of the IPL 2023, Delhi Capitals require an interim skipper. After a terrible accident in December 2022, Pant is stable with minor injuries, but the ligament rupture will prevent him from serving as DC skipper for close to 6 months. Hence, David Warner, the most seasoned player with leadership experience, may be selected to lead DC.
